The Thelma Nicot Selfless Service in Community Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Thelma Nicot - a dedicated educator and community pillar whose commitment to others exemplified the highest standards of selfless service and character.
Thelma developed an enduring work ethic while growing up on a farm, a foundation that propelled her to become the first in her family to attend (and graduate) college. Following her graduation, she enjoyed a distinguished career as a physical education teacher for over 40 years, touching the lives of countless students. Her commitment to the community extended far beyond the gymnasium; she served in numerous leadership roles, including Lioness President, treasurer of the Red Jacket Sports Boosters Club, and an active volunteer with the Parent Teacher Association for both the Red Jacket and Canandaigua school districts. Furthermore, her dedication to service was highlighted by her remarkable achievement as the top fundraiser for the Boy Scouts’ Christmas Wreath sale for over 20 consecutive years in Shortsville/Manchester.
Kind and compassionate, Thelma always put the needs of others before her own. She possessed a unique ability to give back to her community with grace and humility, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life remains a testament to the power of hard work and the importance of serving one’s neighbors.
